A question about dual channel ram...

I checked a few other threads and couldn't find an answer to this question, so here it goes.

Say I have 3 sticks of 256mb. I've heard ( from people who may or may not have experience with this ) That it would be best to just run 2 of them in the dual channel slots until I get a match for the 3rd. I'm mainly curious, but this is my current choices

1 stick of 512
1 stick of 256

By what I gather, they should each be in a different channel than each other because of the different memory and what not. Or if the stick of 256 is helpful at all. I'm soon buying another stick of 512, I was just curious the best set up with what I have.

Well. i typically it will run better in dual channel mode if you use both channels. Im using A1 and B1 slots on my board and using ocz primere seriers pc 3200 512mbx2.

You can use three sticks of ram and still be able to activate dual channel, but the memory will be unbalances. if i set it up with 1538mb of ram, i would have 1024 on one side and 512 on the other.

With my mobo(asus a7n8x-e deluxe) i can activate dual channel using all three slots and it still works.
