The configuration that you described will probably work for you, too. To share the Internet from one computer, you have to enable Internet Connection Sharing through the network setup wizard. BUT, this computer will have to be on in order to use the Internet! The other way you could try is to plug in the router to the modem using an ethernet cable, then the Internet can be accessed through all computers, regardless of which one is on. That is how my network is configured.
