Hi, I'm a computer noobie and is trying to upgrade my psu so that i can buy a new graphics card for it. I was wondering that what if the power supply doesnt fit in my computer? Can I leave it outside of the case? Thank you for your help in advance.
FAB_Scott: If he has a Dell machine, which are rubbish so he is right to want to upgrade, they use their own proprietary motherboards and PSUs, which have cases that are designed to only fit those particular parts. The upshot of this is that the case isn't standard ATX format and any ATX-specified parts that you wish to updgrade with often won't fit in the case because of the way the case fixings are made.
Yeah, you are absolutely right about Dell usually needing their own replacement parts....I was asking to elicit more information really.
Is it a Dell I wonder?????.
Nope, I have a Sony Vaio computer and I asked them about the power supply and they said you can not upgrade your power supply because it is designed only for that case....
Soooooooooooo, how do you use the pci-e slot if you only got a 300 walts psu? I can't stand using integrated graphics card. Thanks in anyway if you guys can help me on this. Also do you know any really small power supplys that can fit in my case? Thanks
