Using my computer in europe???

Hi,
I live in the UK. Could i use my computer in France? Ive heard voltages are different. Well. I have a red switch on the back of my power supply. Its currently set at 230v. Is it a matter of changing the voltage on the back of the PSU or do i have to get a new PSU or will my computer work at all??

Hmm im pretty sure that your setup would work fine in france too seeing as france runs 230volt and england runs 240. Dont change the setting on the back of your psu seeing as it would change it to ~115V. If you use the power supply on the 115 volt setting in europe or france your powersupply(and possibly you) will die a horrid smoking death. Anyways, keep the powersupply in 230 for use over there..you may need a plug converter to physically plug it in though.
maybe someone else would have more insight on this subject then me..

You remind me of a funny practical joke we did once here in the united states before class. We flipped all of our 115V switches to 230V. Most of the computers barely booted if at all. Needless to say we had a pretty laidback class that year... in USA this wont damage power supplys... but never do this in europe because it will burn out the powersupply.

hopefully this will help :-)

No problem at all. You will need a 2 pin Euro plug. When I moved out here in '99 I brought my PC and modem. Never had a problem.
