CPU upgrade vs VGA upgrade

My current system
Athlon 3400+ (939)*
Dfi lanparty sli-d
1gb ocz platinum memory
various 7200rpm hard drives
albatron 6600gt

*As far as I can tell, this is identicle to the socket 754 athlon 3400+. I get none of the benifits of 939

Im trying to decide whether to get a opteron 148
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch..._Code= 120333

or a second 6600gt.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814170072

Any suggestions?

Question for you, what benefit were you looking for that you did not get ??? Opteron is lower grade of AMD chip set then why would you want to downgrade ?
You already have a 6600gt, what good a second would do for you ?

Dude, I think you have too much money to spend, I wish I have that problem , if you want to get better performance out of your system then, get SATA 320 HD for your system.

Cheers

Opterons are a step above athlons and they generally overclock better

I'd go for the Opteron. I've just been reading about it in CustomPC and its exactly the same as the FX-57 architecture-wise, just a lower clock speed. If you're comfortable with OC-ing then you can have it running like an FX in no time. But I think you'd actually be better off flogging the existing GFXcard and getting yo'self a shiny 6800 or 7800...
