Would this be a lot faster than the system I now have. Also I thought I heard where either xp home or xp pro would work better with the dual core. Any suggestions

What you have got right now is a very good system to begin with... specially for what you are using it for.....
Pavilion d4100e with upgraded chip to 4200+ would be a nice system but please don't think you will have a twice as fast computer because you got a dual core. Dual core system would be a great asset for a gaming person and the 64 Bit option is a nice touch for future operating system upgrade (like 64 Bit XP), but spending all that much money perhaps does not justify the speed different you will get between two system (that's my 2¢ worth)
Cheers
