What is a Combo Drive? [CD/DVD]

Is there a drive that can read and write CD and DVD and also play DVD's? What do you call such an drive?

Yes, they can be called combo drives or super drives. They read and write both CDs and DVDs. Especially good for laptops, since you have only one drive bay.

A combo drive usually means a CDRW/DVD-ROM. That is, it reads and writes CDs, for DVDs it's read only. As DVDRWs have gotten so cheap, combo drives are disappearing. Hardly any good reason anymore not to get a DVDRW regardless. And yes, they do both CDs and DVDs. Nearly all are now dual-format, DVD +/-R, RW.
