Computer Randomly Turns Off

I have a few problems with this PC 2 months after reformatting

Every now and then I will just be browsing through folders, playing songs, surfing in Firefox and bam, the screen goes black or the computer turns off, or restarts. Also sometimes I notice settings are messed up when I restart.

Sometimes when it just turns off it makes like a Harddrive whine down sound? Like CLICK-DRRRHHH then silence.

I can play games fine, only a few lockups with newer games because I expect too much from this PC, when I lower the settings it's fine

Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2400
Abit VA-10 Motherboard
1024mb PC3200 400mhz RAM
512mb "" ""
80GB Western Digital HDD - windows hdd
120GB Maxtor DiamondPlus 9 - media hdd
VIA USB 2.0 Card
ASUS ATI Radeon 9550GE 256mb

If you hear clicking sound from the hard drive ....That's a BAD sign.....I will die on you sooner or later, I would suggest to save your data before it's too late.......I could possibly be the cause of your unexpected reboots and shutdowns !!!! Also, see if you have a decent power supply, cheap power supply that are rated 400 or 450 WATTS, don't usually supply that much power and can cause the system to shutdown.

Cheers

It says 400w, it's a cheap brand.

I've had problems with the Maxtor harddrive before, so I took it back and this second one is no good aswell

Ohwell, looks like I'll have to take it back and get another one, then use it for a few months until it dies like the others...

Yep, I only learned this after buying one. I can't get a refund on it, only a replacement of the exact same HDD....

My Western Digital is going on 2 years old, and its whisper quiet I never hear it make a noise.

This Maxtor sounds like a lawnmower.
