Video card vs. Processor

The benchmarks i've read on my geforce 6800gs are higher then what i'm getting, by somtimes 20fps or more. There running a 4800 x2 processor....and i have a little old 3000+ so does it make that much of a difference?

ASUS A8N-E
AMD ATHLON 64 3000
XFX GEFORCE 6800GS xxx edition
GEIL 2gb DUAL CHANNEL

What benchmarks are you refering to?

3DMark06 is far more cpu dependent that previous versions and the dual core processors take advantage of this to give a higher score, if that is what you are refering to.

Also remember that a lot of benchmark scores are on overclocked hardware. Are you overclocking??

Also what driver version are you using?

forceware 81.98

My apologies i should have been more specific. I am referring to game benchmarks like for example...DOOM 3, FARCRY ... the performance charts i was looking at is from www.cooltechzone.com, there test system is:

AMD 4800+ X2
1GB RAM

they get 69fps with 8xAA/16xAF 1280x1024 resolution and i get 29fps.

So that's were i'm wondering if the processor makes that much of a difference.

I would say that to run those benches they have very little in the way of background services running, probably nil unnecessary, do you halt all processes? Also they are just giving AA/AF, the IQ is probably set to high performance, vsync off and also they are running SATA drives, every little bit helps in benches. They don't tell you those little things in the review, they also neglect to tell you the driver version they used for the Nvidia cards.

Nice little app to one click kill background services is EndItAll2, google it, was freeware a while back, some sites still host the freeware version.

You might like to try the 83.90 beta Win XP 32 bit driver to see if you get any benefit, it's not a speed driver but the IQ on my ultra is noticably increased, and as a latest beta should offer better support than your current driver. (assuming you are running 32bit windows)

I took your advice and tried the new forceware 83.90 beta and the kill it all 2 program and i got instant results. Thanks

do you have any idea on were to get patches to play games in widescreen, i purchased a 16:10 19 inch lcd but some games can't take the resolution 1440 x 900 (DOOM3, NFS:most wanted) any idea.
