A Difficult Choice (For Me At Least!)

Hi everyone, I realize that this is a fairly basic question that has probably been answered 50 times before I joined this forum, but here it goes...

My parents are giving me the pick of two computers. I will be using the new computer mostly for games. The options are;

1. 2.2 Ghz, 512 mb RAM, 128 mb video card (dont know the model sorry!) a DVD/CD burner, and an 80 Gig HD

2. 2.8 GHz, 512 mb RAM, 64 mb video card (again, dont know the model), a CD burner that reads DVDs, and an 80 Gig HD

I am willing to spend a little money on either of these after I get them. I was thinking of maybe buying 512 more mbs of RAM if I got option no. 1, and buying a 256mb video card if I got option no. 2.

Finally my question is, what in your wise opinions, would be the better gaming PC? Also, in general, is it better to have a lot of RAM and a less poewrful video card, or less RAM, and a beast of a video card? Thanks for your time guys I know this is a long question!

These days games like Battlefield2 make 2gb of ram almost a necessity.

You don't state what cpu types ...... AMD make better gaming cpu at present.

Assuming the 2.8 is a P4 cpu you will need at least 1gb of ram, the 64mb video card is virually outdated these days and not many newer games will run on them with decent settings.

it's a hard call, 2.2 cpu with 1gb of ram and a 128 video card will probably be the best pick of the options you have presented, but without specific details of the components I would hate to advise either way at this stage.

If one of them is AMD, get it.
