ram

i had a question about whether buying more ram would make my computer run faster as in, run more programs at the same time and not lag, mine's even slow in opening windows media player 11 and if i had more ram would it open smoothly.

if so what would you recommend for my dell dimesion 2400

i have 512mb right now by the way

You should really add more RAM,make it above 1gb its really useful youl notice a huge difference in games and programs especially the WM player 11.
Check out Ram prices at www.newegg.com.

Better check your system specs on that model as you may be limited to the amount you can install. You can find out by heading to Dells web site and check using your serial number. The amount varies depending on which model of "2400" you have.

IF your machines slow, you probably have to many things in the startup menu.

Do this:

Start - Run - type "msconfig" without the quotes.

Press enter - System configuration utility will appear, look on the top, right hand corner and look for "Startup" click on this, if you have loads of things ticked.

Then at the bottom (under the list) click on "Disable all"

Enable only the essentials, i.e. Anti virus software, your ISP software (which ever that may be) and DSL if its showing.

Click on OK & Restart your PC.

If that makes no difference,

Back in to system config utility -
Click on services

At the bottom put a tick in the box that will say "Hide all Ms services" then disable the rest, again, only ticking the essentials

Again, OK & restart when prompted.

See how you go.

Having extra RAM in your PC, could and may, make it faster, but not gauranteed.
Other things come in to play.

Hard drive size, on board Video, PCi / AGP Card.
Processor speed. And of course the RAM!
