Thumbs down RS232 pinouts vs MIDI DB15 pinouts

From my local electronic store, I ordered a 6 foot M-F extension for the midi connector DB15 on my Realtek AC97. I already have the breakout cable for the round in/out connections to my keyboard.

The cable that they delivered to me is labelled RS 232 Serial Cable. There are descriptions on the label that alerted me to ask this compatability question. Those descriptions are:

all 9 wires, 26AWG wired straight through

For Monitor extension, LAN or Serial connections

My question - there are 6 pins unconnected obviously. Are the 9 pins used in RS232 connections the same pins used in MIDI data transport? If my memory serves me correctly, 5 pins are used in MIDI. Are those five amongst the 9 used by RS232?
