Smile I Have No Sound On My Pc

Hi All,

I have a main problem of Having no sound on my PC.
I am currently running windows XP on a packard Bell Desktop PC with the Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-8SIML with intergrated sound
In Device Manager it says that under "Other Devices" Multimedia audio controller is missing (Hilighted in yellow).

Under my Device description (Using Everest) I have a number of devices which I am partly aware that there may be contridicting each other. Or using common sense tells me so anyway...
I am not fully competant with drivers as these are such complex things.
If I could ask for answers to this problem?? all suggestions are highly appreciated.

I am running McAfee Security Suite.
Aol 9.0, Reason 3.0, Quicktime, Realplayer

These are the devices descriptions currently installed
Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter [A/B/C]
SiS 315 Intergrated Video Adapter
SiS 651 Chipset - Host - PCI Bridge
SiS 7001 PCI-USB Open Host Controller ( x2 of these installed for some reason or another..)
SiS 7012 Audio Device
SiS 7013 Software Modem
SiS 85C513 IDE Controller
SiS 86C201 AGP Controller
SiS 961 MuTiOL Media I/O Bridge
SiS SMBus Controller...

Also Under the sound properties the main audio output is described to me as using the "Modem #0 line in/out" only and I can not change this Unfortunatly to my limited knowledge at present.

I take my sound seriously!

Thankyou In advance.

James

PS. It also shows me that when i try to record something or playback that another device is using that program which further leads me to believe that there is almost definetly a contradiction.

Right, James. Two possible ways to go here, since it's a Packard Bell system. Packard Bell buy in the sound-controllers from the manufacturers, customise them, and then have custom-made drivers created for them, so the PB website should be the first place to go for driver support to guarantee the driver will work fully. PB supplies all the device drivers for it's PCs, so that alone has it's advantages. So your options are (in order of preference):

1. The PB website (you'll need to supply the exact model name/number of the PC): http://support.packardbell.com/uk/

OR

2. Sound-driver direct from the SIS website (you'll need to tick the box first to accept the Agreement, then click "I Agree":
http://www.sis.com/download/agreemen...hp?id= 155808 But remember, As the agreement says, and which I've pointed out, their driver is not guaranteed to work properly with a sound-chip that's been modified by Packard Bell. That's why Option 1 above is the better choice.

Or you could just go in to Smart Restore and install the drivers this way if they are available.
