Using 333 Mhz and 400 Mhz DDR ram together

I am thinking of upgrading the memory on my Dell PC running Windows XP. Currently it has a 256 MB DDR ram with 333 MHz clock speed. I am wondering if the additional memory I purchase has to be 333 MHz itself. Will I be able to use a 400 MHz DDR ram along side with the 333 MHz DDR ram?

For a qualified and guaranteed correct answer, your best bet is to visit the Crucial memory website and use their online Crucial System Scanner utility. It will then list all the types of RAM that are compatible with your PC. memory modules don't always have to be the same speed to work together but it depends on the motherboard make/model.

For example, some boards use 'Dual Memory Architecture' where all RAM modules must be the same speed and even the same capacity. Using the Crucial System Scanner will automatically take all that into account. And if you order from their recommendation and it doesn't work, they'll refund you in full.
