Question Memory Upgrade Question??

I just installed another 1GB of RAM to my PC (Gateway 702GE - 3.2Mhz, 250GM hard drive, 1GB DDR 3200 RAM) and now have a total of 2GBs of RAM. I purchased the memory from an online site which shall remain nameless (but it wasn't eBay). The box arrived and it appeared that the memory was a "bring back" item....in other words, someone else purchased it before me -- got it home and found out that either it wouldn't work with their PC or they couldn't figure out how to install it !!). The box was re-taped and the seal was broken on the plastic case where the two memory chips resided. The memory chips appear to be in good shape, however, so I went ahead and installed them in my machine. My PC now shows that I have 2GBs of RAM --- but my question is --- how can I be sure that the memory is really functioning as it is supposed to? If it were not "working", would I even see that my RAM had been upgraded? Are there any other places I can check on my PC to find out if these 2 512MB memory sticks are working as they are supposed to? I really expected to be able to see a major difference in how fast my applications loaded and how quickly the PC would boot up --- but I honestly don't see any difference...maybe I just don't know what to look for or how to test it out...or maybe simply doubling your PC's RAM won't make a noticeable difference in the performance.......so that's why I'm coming here -- to the EXPERTS for help !!

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated ( other than don't buy anymore RAM from an online site !!)

Thanks !!

open task manager and look down the right corner of the window at the commit charge if it was 5000 m or so then your ram is installed correctly and fuctioning (you wont notice much difference in progs from 1gb to 2gb of RAM,But the huge diff is the games)

in experience, more ram doesn't really boost the application speed but help me run more programs with less lag and some games helped run games and programs that needed a lot of resources.
