Mobo Problems?

Specs:
Windows Xp
EliteGroup c51gm-M
Geforce 6600
AMD dual core 64
Sata 160 HD
Drivers up to date. however this mobo has very little support.

My comp has been funny since i built it; it randomly while under stress (CS:S, movies, MP3) will shut-off parts of my comp. Somtimes my mouse will stop working (light remains on) or my sound will cut out (mp3s wont even play) and often under heavy stress the whole comp will just freeze, and rarely restart... any ideas on what i should do to fix/help the problem

Thanks alot for the support stt users.

Just a couple possibilities off the top of my head:

1) Heat. Do you have SpeedFan or a similar monitoring program? What are the mobo and cpu temperatures? If, for example, you didn't use good thermal paste like Arctic Silver and/or didn't properly secure the heatsink, the cpu could overheat, leading to lockups. And don't forget to verify the heatsink fan is turning. Do you have good ventilation in the case? No dust buildup?

2) Power. Your power supply is inadequate/faulty.(?) Or perhaps there are loose connections?

Anyway, I'd check those things first. You'll get other suggestions, no doubt. Good luck.

It has a good heatsink paste and it is in a coolermaster case, with a bunch of fans, i dont think it is heat but ill monitor that closely, as for the power source it checked out fine... thanks alot for the suggestions

Nobody has any other suggestions for you? Well, wait a while.

Anyway, I've had machines with symptoms similar to yours. In one instance, the fix was as simple as replacing all the IDE cables. In another box, USB was intermittently bad in the front of the machine only. That one drove me nearly crazy, but the problems went away when I plugged the external hard drive in the back instead.

Does device manager tell you anything useful?
