Clock Speeds ?!?

Now Intel have started calling their cpus with model numbers how do you work out what the clock speed of a new CPU is?

I have a customer who wants a new pc with a Dual Core. I recommended the 'Intel Core 2 Duo E6600' and when I said that he just looked at me as if I was a caveman who had come to kill him....

I've recently found out that that CPU is equivalent to a 2.4GHz. Now again because it’s a dual core do I double 2.4GHz, as essentially its two CPU’s in one or is that the actual clock speed.

How do I work out the clock speeds on various CPU's? And If there Dual Core's do I double the result?

Yeah with dual cores you double the result near enough, im not sure how to work out intel cpus, as i personally prefer AMD. But with a AMD athlon 2000+, it will run at 1.67gHZ but will be about as good as a 2gHZ Intel cpu, and a 3200+ runs about (guessing, i forgot) 2.6gHZ but will almost seem like a 3.2gHZ core with a intel equivelnt.

These arent allways set in stone though, you'd probly not get the equivelnt of a intel 3.2gHZ out of a amd 3200+....but it's a guide

With amd you just kinda take off about 20%-30% (close enough) of the number

Amd's deal with gaming slightly better than intel cores, due to the way they process information
