Canon Scanner 8600F vs. 8800F

Consumerreports.org gave a good rating to the Canon 8600F scanner, however, it is no longer available. You can get one at amazon.com or maybe nextag.com. The 8800F is the next in line. Does anyone know if the 8800F is a better buy, then looking around for a 8600F?

Thanks.
NYF

well looking around the 8600f and 8800f are roughly the same price between £130 -145. i would go for the 8800f ,,as its newer model and drivers will be available for xp and vista also 32 and 64 bit i should think. also have you ever thought of getting a all in one ,,,scanner /printer/copier ,,quiet cheap nowadays and just as good resolution and you can print docs,,then copy them. for same price as the 8800f you could get a decent all in one. the Canon PIXMA MP600R is a exc printer. also ethernet or wireless connection for printer sharing. heres a link for specs http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/ps_1...100052213.html

Thanks for the reply.

I recently purchased a Canon Pixma IP4300 printer, so I don't think I will go the all in one route right now. The 8800F sounds pretty good. I'll check out Best Buy and Buy.com today.

Thanks again.
NYF.

Got the 8800F in the mail today. $191 from buy.com with free shipping. Plus an extra $10 off for signing up and using google checkout. $181 - not bad.

Does anyone know the trick to locking my old UMAX Astra 4000u scanner? I can't seem to push the switch over into the lock position. Does that just happen when it breaks anyway?

Thanks
NYF.
