Replacing DVD drive in laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A85-S107 and the DVD/CD combo drive is going out. I am thinking about replacing it but I have never really done anything with laptops. I have been looking at new drives but I am not sure what to get. On my desktop I can pretty much pull it out and just replace it with another one, but when it comes to laptops, I am not really sure. Is there any sort of standard on them? When I look at the price of ones that I know that are for mine, they are like $170.00. I see other ones that don't specify for what brands they work on but they have DVD burners and are much cheaper then that. They look simular in the pictures but I don't know if they will work. Is there any way to tell? I can't really see spanding $170.00 on a CD-RW/DVD-ROM when I can buy a DVD Rewriter for about $50.00.

Thanks,
Ren

Hi Ren, I can not see any reason why the cheaper model will not work. If you are concerned call into your local PC store and ask them some questions. They might be able to supply and fit one cheap and no headaches for you.

Thanks for the reply Monty007.

It isn't really a big deal if I have one in it. The last time I reinstalled windows I just used one of my extrenal burners, but it would be nice to have one though. I think I am just going to get one and try it. If it don't work I will just get an enclosure and make it into another external drive.
