Wireless G 108Mbps 2x Mode question.

I am thinking about upgrading my wireless cards to a Wireless G 108Mbps 2x Mode card. I think I understand the concept behind 2x Mode. From what I understand is that it opens 2 channels to achieve the extra speed. Here is my question. Do I have to have Wireless G Router that is compatible with 2x Mode also?

I am assuming that I do but I am not sure.

Yes, you would need a compatible router that is not only capable of x2 mode but is also able to operate at 108Mbps for you to take advantage of the 108Mbps speed capability of the wireless card. The x2 feature of the card will only work with a x2-compatible router because it's the router that determines channel usage, not the card. The card is only responsible for channel detection.
