Is replacement ram recognized by XP?

**
Computer and system :
Mini-notebook (10 inch netbook) Asus 1000H running XP SP3
*
What I did :
REPLACED ONE barrette 1 gig ram w another 2 gig ram
(CORSAIR SO-DIMM VS2GSDS667D2 ONE Barrette Mémoire SO-DIMM
2 Go DDR2 PC2-5300 - 667 MHz - 200 pins - CL5)
*
What happened ? :
Nothing obvious, because everything functions as before. Therefore, I know the new ram works.
**
Q one :
How can I tell system recognizes 2 gigs ram and not 1 gig?
Q two :
Must I make any changes to the setup? And if so, how?
*
Thanks in advance for yr help.
G

Q. How to tell if the OS recognized the new RAM?

A. Right-click MY COMPUTER -> PROPERTIES -> General tab in System Properties

The info in there should tell you if the new RAM has been recognized.

OR

For more detailed information of your PC (with details for the RAM), do the following:

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information

Thanks Dave but I'd already done that

but the TWO gb ram barette is still not recognized. Only ONE gb ram is displayed. I'd tried Everest and Fresh Diagnose w the same result. This said the machine 'seems' to run more quickly. Perhaps there's something I should do when starting up?

Have you taken the RAM out the PC and put it back in? that might work.

Dear Dave,
Thanks for having taken the time to help me.
Finally I used the function key together w F2 to access bios which displayed « System memory installed size 2048 » I assume this item refs to the Corsair 2 GB RAM card I installed. I hope it is, because it's not referred to as page/swap/virtual memory. Let me know what you think.

Another thought. I suppose the fact that we now know that bios
recognizes the replaced ram, does not in itself mean in itself that XP OS actually 'manages' this extra ram (which it does not recognize in the first place)

Does it make sense 'to assume' that this newly added ram is nevertheless operative, does makes a difference, can help w sw like resource-hungry Photoshop v 7 which I also installed

In the below cited vidéo, an American technicien, who replaced ram on an Asus netbook (not my modèle); demonstrated by screen display that the newly installed ram was bios-recognized but he mentioned something about a "kernel" needing modif, because if I understood him correctly, the OS didn't recognize the extra ram. He spoke so quickly. Where can this kernel lodge?

Me, being one year shy of 80, my mind's no longer capable of
following all this. Thanks again and
All the best,
G
