Memory upgrade not recognized

My computer originally had two 1GB DDR PC3200 memory and two 512MB DDR PC3200 memory. I replaced the two 512MB with 1GB DDR PC3200 memory, but now computer properties only shows 2GB total RAM instead of 4GB. I tried reinstalling the new memory but it does not change.

Two 1GB memory and two 512MB = 3GB

Replaced the two 512MB memory for 1GB, therefore:

Two 1GB memory and the new 1GB memory = 3GB NOT 4GB

The OS uses resources on the PC that would cause the memory usage to be slower than you would expect. Not sure about the 4GB you mentioned, you would need another 1GB if another slot is available.
