Help - Upgrade Newbie

Hi,
Thinking of upgrading my pc piece by piece due to lack of funds. I currently have a Pentium 4 3.6Ghz on an ASUS P5GD1 mobo. Can anyone advise a list Asus mobo's that I could upgrade prior to selecting a new processor.

I thought one of the P5Q ranges but there so many conflicting reviews. e.g. on whether the Pentium 4 is compatible. I thought I just had to ensure the FSB of the mobo was 800Mhz!!!!!

Also which chipsets should I use.
