need advice on a video card please

I'm looking to get a new video card, Ati Radeon HD4770 512MB and wondering if it will work in my system, it's PCI-E 2.0 x16.From what I have read the PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible, I have a Ati Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB at the moment. Any help much appreciated.

Asus A8N-SLi Premium skt 939
Amd Athlon X2 4200+
PCI-E x16
500 watt modular PSU
3GB memory
Win XP Pro
250GB HD

Hi Barbara, it's not often I get to help you ...lol. Okay the ATI 4770 series card is an excellent choice for you M/B. No problems running it on your board as your M/B has a 16x PCI express slot.
This is a low end gaming card but on saying that I am comparing it to the very high end. This card will run games fine or perfect for general use.

thanks Monty007, looked at one of your other posts and am now looking at the HD4870, upgraded my drivers for Ati and Catalyst showed the HD4870 as an upgrade, the reason I asked was that the comp shop said it would not run on my system. But checked your link to Ati/Amd and as you have said my system can run it. Want to be ready for Win 7, have not upgraded from XP, but have Win 7 VM Ware and I like it, I have pre ordered but will not install until the first SP comes out LOL no rush as they say, thank you again for the help, it's reassuring that someone knows something I do not.

Got the HD 4850 and very pleased, it's so quite I'm having to check if the comp is switching on, the other old card was really loud LOL. Now for a new monitor.

I agree, been using it on VMWare on other comp, lower specs to the one I use, and yes I'm impressed. The monitor is great, digital and great screen resolution, early Christmas present LOL
