Replacing a IDE HDD with a SATA HDD!!!

Hello!

My laptop's harddrive( the laptop is a toshiba satelite A10) was infected by a virus. When i boot it says disk error and tells me to press ctrl+alt+dlt which restarts it when i do that. it also does not want to be formated. A friend told me it is 'dead' and now i want to buy a new one. The problem is that it is an IDE and the new ones are all SATA. My question is, will the sata work? What are the complications involved?

Forgive me if i have not given enough information, am really not aware of what information is needed. Please let me if U need more information.

thank you in advance,
jrnedy.

A SATA drive and an IDE drive have different connections that slot in to your sytem board (Motherboard) Unlike a PC, you can't get an IDE - SATA connector. You'll need to upgrade your motherboard for your laptop if you want a SATA in there.

When you say your machine won't format, what happens when you try? I take it with the A10 you're using a recovery cd? Do you get any error messages? If so what are they? Does it happen straight away? You've probably had a Boot sector virus, you'll need to kill your HDD (Delete all partitions) and start from scratch.

You could have course get an external HDD if you want a SATA that'll connect via USB.

Check the link out with further info and a rough idea of what I mean.

I found a new IDE HDD and everything is fine now. There is just one problem, the presumed dead HDD. If i try to install a new os into the HDD, i have to format it first right! Now when i reached the point where i had to delete the partition and then format the created raw one, it brings the BSOD, and from there all i can do i start the whole process again. Am using the original recovery DVD.

when it bsod, it'll give an error message.

Reply with that technical code, it'll say something like 0x0000.

BSOD can be memory, HDD or mainboard.
