Question DDR ram question

I've got 256MB DDR SDRAM AT 266MHZ,TIED memory. Can I use thePC2100, PC2700 or PC3500 memory? What does that mean anyways?

It all depends on your motherboard and how it handles different RAM Modules.

Check this page for real good info ...

for a quick break down:

pc2100, 2700, 3200... etc... =these numbers are directly taken from the modules "bandwidth potential". this is the amount of data it is capable of handling per second--- 2.7 GB/s is pc2700 and so on. This is determined by the bus speed of the memory. for instance, the pc2700 memory runs at a clock speed of 333MHz, which is actually 166x2 (x2 because it is DDR or double data rate.)

There is a lot more to memory than just these numbers, but you get the general idea. Hope this helps.

DDR

You can use any assortment of DDR speeds and sizes, but your RAM will only run as fast as the slowest chip. Which means the faster sticks would run as if they were 266mhz. Better just to use all the same speed. Also your RAM can only run as fast as your MoBo supports, depending on your MoBo. I suggest and ASUS. Doesn't matter which one.
