Hi, hopefully someone can help me out with some advice before I bite the bullet and buy a new PC...
I need to use Excel 2010 to dedupe a bunch of email addresses (approx 350,000 in a column). The PC I've got at the moment is a Dell Vostro_200, Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 2.00Ghz, 1.99GHz, 3.00GB of RAM (the memory has been maxed to its limit).
Previously I've worked with Excel 2003 (I had less data to crunch) which worked fine with my PC. After swapping to Excel 2010, there's all manner of errors, the worst being when my PC completely crashes and I have to re-boot by turning the button off on the tower.
I'm looking at a new PC with these specs:
Quad Core i5 3.1Ghz Processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive.
My two questions are
1. does it sound like my existing PC isn't powerful enough to do the job (I wanna be sure the problem's not software related only)?
2. does the replacement one sound like overkill spec wise (if so what spec should get me through this type of task?)?
Thanks in advance for any help
