Post building computer (parts)

i have desiceded to build a computer and i'm not really sure what is a good mother board to use if you want to overclock later on and that would be upgradable as well.

i've heard Gigabyte and Asus as two names that came up most freqently. my question is if anyone knows a good up to date mother board that would allow me to do the above mentioned.

as long as i am on the topic - i heard a few reviews about Intel and Athlon and from the sounds of it Athlon is better.

any suggestions are appreciated.

For a motherboard, using an Amd with overclocking, I'd go with either Abit NF7-S or Asus A7N8X Deluxe Nforce2 boards.

As for Intel or Amd........ I'll leave that up to someone else.

well from the looks of it Intel P4 is not supported by the A7N8X Deluxe Nforce2 board. AMD athlon xp 3200 is compatible with the board, but from the test
the Intel P4 3.00 Ghz seems the best option. i also have mixed feelings about nVidia.

so if you have any expreiece with boards that are compatible with P4 and are able to handle overclocking please post.

thank you.

Ok i read as much as i understood

please correct me if i'm wrong, LooseChippings

Athlonxp 32oo+ is slower initially than P4 3.0 but has a better potential for overclocking, thus end speed is faster than P4 3.0?

You are asking the wrong person here my friend.

Just my views and NOT to be taken seriously

Overclocking is for those that ...

Don't mind burning money.

Can afford money on all those little extras that could have gone to faster parts in the first place.

Want a 'state of the art system' that will be out of date in a years time along with every other PC of today.

Are quite happy to have a piece of software telling them their system is working faster although they cannot physically see it.
