graphics card...help please

well i really want to get a new graphics card, because right now im playing games with my built-in Intel 810 DirectAGP 3D. I have an eMachines 1090, with 256 MB RAM, Windows XP, and only PCI slots I believe. What should i get? i tried getting one before, but for some reason everytime i tried doing something that used the card, the computer automatically restarted. a friend said this was because of my power supply, so i got a new one wiht more power, but i had already returned the card. Any advice?

by chance, when you installed PCI graphics card, did you disable onboard graphics? There will either be a setting in the BIOS setup, or a jumper on the motherboard. BTW, don't waste a lot of money on a PCI graphics card. That would be money better put to use on a motherboard w/AGP and a card, or a new system. PCI graphics will get you by for the short term, but don't count on being satisfied for long.

I recomend that you don't get a pci graphics card they use up so much bus. I had pci geforce 2 once it used up so much bus that my sound went all crappy and the computer was slow. You need to get a mobo with Agp so you can get an Agp card. And pci cards cost a lot more.

That is a great point. PCI video cards are huge bus hogs.

I agree. If you have the time and resources, you mine as well build a new PC. The PCI graphics will get you by but you will find that it just isn't enough. Save some money and start looking into building yourself a dream machine.
