if it is listed as a drive in My computer, start menu, or desktop icon, right click it, select format, select ntfs from the choices and format it. if it is having trouble with fat32 i would try ntfs and see if it works ok. i dont know what orriginally set that drive up so.......just guessing what might be the problem.

or, (right-click) My Computer > Manage > Disk Management > (right-click) the external drive and select "Format" > Choose whether you want a "Quick Format" or "Enable File and Folder Compression".

There is a DOS command you run in the command prompt window that will convert the FAT32 to NTFS. But if you don't need the data on the drive then just format it.

Info on the command prompt conversion:

Talking formatting external hard drive

Thank you all, used the "convert" method, worked a treat. Checked the HD, now ntfs & healthy. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself that I actually had the courage to do it. You can all take the credit. Learning so much from you all.

Thanks once again.
