laptop cpu upgrade

I'm thinking of upgrading the cpu of my Dell Inspiron 8000 - P3 850mhz to a P3 1.4Ghz.

Is this a realistic proposition?

Just how difficult is it to upgrade laptop CPUs?

I have already upgraded the RAM to the max amount. So the CPU is the next thing to do. Or should I just get a new laptop and be done with it.

Just about anything is complicated on a laptop.

You need to check the motherboard to see if the replacement CPU will fit. If it does then you need to see if a shrinkwrapped CPU will physically fits and that the cooling is up to scratch.

Too many variables for my liking.
