What new video card can I use with an ASUS PEB motherboard?

I’d like to change my video card. I don’t do games, but I do quite a bit of Visio™ and PowerPoint™. My system is an ASUS P2B (yes old) with an Intel 600 MHz CPU, 512 MG of RAM, 60 GB of hard drive (2), Planar PX-191 monitor.

The current video card is Diamond Multimedia Fire GL 1000 PRO.

Is there an inexpensive (e.g. < $75) video card that I can acquire to give the video a bit more P-O-P!!?

Do I use an AGP card or a PCI card?

I don't know about the VGA on your system. I would suggest an AGP card. There are alot of VGAs fron different makers in the price range that you have to play with. Let us know what you found.

I purchased a Radeon 9000 PRO 128 MB.

Hardest part of the install was reinstalling the little mounting screw that ties the card to the chassis.

Booted, it ran, it updated drivers and I was running. For good measure, I downloaded the latest drivers from ATI after I was comfortable with the original install and the original drivers supplied by Radeon.

And, WOW what a great improvement in clarity with the DVI video path over the former analog video path. It’s like reading a printed page from a high quality multi-color printing press. Text, images, pictures, graphics are all great!

I must say, given my “older” MOBO, I did a bit of googling before feeling entirely comfortable.
