upgrading HP Pavilion

Hi, I have an HP Paviolion 6340 and am wanting to upgrade it, mainly as a way of learning more - I want to build my own new PC from scrath some day. Anyone got any help on how I should get started, I need to ID the mobo first I guess, but how can I find out what I can add. Any help appreciated.
