Mother Board Problems

I'm thinking that this is a mother board problem. This is what happens:

When I start the computer, my mother board will go through the regular routine of checking the memory and then auto dectecting the drives that I have installed. Well, when it's detecting the drives, sometimes it is unable to detect any drive! I would then have to restart the computer and hope that it at least picks up on my hard drive so that Windows will boot. So, now it's different everytime I restart the computer. Goes back and forth.

The only thing I did, was to switch my CD-R drive with a DVD-R drive. I made sure of the Primary and Secondary master/slave jumpers were set correctly. The power was securely connected to all the drives...I even went so far as to install a new 350W power supply!

I haven't updated my mother board's bios anytime recent. Could that be the problem??? I don't know if I will be able to find it...it's pretty old. I have an ASUS P3B-F.

Please, if anybody has any feedback on this dilema, that would be GREAT!!! Thanks in advance to everyone who replies!

here is the link for downloading the bios for you mobo : http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...odelName=P3B-F

You never know if that problem has to do with your mobo or actually one of your drives is going bad ? I would save the essential document in a CD or two just to stay on the safe side, also, go to BIOS setting and remove the Auto detect on the start up, if you have to set the HD parameter manually and do a few reboot see if the forced setting makes a difference.

cheers
