Question CDR-RW Problems

After updating to WinXp SP1 my cdr-rw is not recognized by windows. I've tried updating the drivers with no help (made it worse, now it says drive is disconnected). I'm running:
WinXP Sp1
Celeron
320MB
and my CDR-RW is a Mitsumi CR-4804TE

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks jt76

i have only had this happen with motherboards with intel chipsets, i went to the intel site and downloaded the updates from there and the drives returned. the application accelerator has caused me issues with pio drives though.

I have intel 810 chipset. Windows did recognize the drive and I was able to use it with no problems until now. I've updated the release from intel for win xp but it tells me that all .inf files are up to date.

just a thought, are there any other drives on the cable with the cdrw? i have seen some after sp1 running master that no longer detected, set them as cable select and they pick right up, or vice versa, set it to master instead of cable select.

The computer is an HP pavilion xe783. It was running ME until I upgraded. The CDR-Rw is running on its own cable that reads slave. I was able to install all my software and personal files using the cd drive with no problems until now. How do I know if it's set to cable select or master?

Thanks for your help.

some bootdisk utilities for hard rives have a jumper detection feature, but i always look at the back of the drive to see. most have the jumper layout printed on the drive somewhere. the jumper pins will look like this.
: : ] = master
: ] : = slave
] : : = cable select
i will check the hp site for anything that might help, patches ect. will post back if i find anything.

that is a link to the cd troubleshooting guide, this is a known issue.

driver updates can be found here, but not in english, choose your language.

the full specs of your computer can be found at the link below, this is a odd one, it is made as a wal-mart promotional bundle, why they dont have english driver listings is beyond me.

After following hp's advice and restoring my computer to an earlier checkpoint my computer still refuses to read any cd's. It does give me the option of recording one but it won't read anything. Very frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's all fixed

I installed an app from Intel for my motherboard. It must've caused an error. I was able to go into safe mode and the drive worked fine there the app was the last thing I installed was able to remove it and I got my drive back. Thanks for all your help.
I've looked all over the internet and this problem has happened to a lot of people so I don't think its just Intel problem it's an XP problem.
Again thanks alot.

yep.

It was intel application accelerator that caused the glitch. Don't know wht it was but after removing it the computer now recognizes my drive and I can play all media.
