200GB HDD Problem

I've just recived my package today for my 200GB HDD.

It's a Hitachi Deskstar 200GB HDD.

ATA 100/IDE

I'm making this as slave HDD. I set my jumpers to the how Hitachi wants it to be.

I even changed the IDE cable.

I pluged the IDE and power cable in.

When I boot up. My BIOS doesn't dectect it.

But when I'm in Windows. I went to my Device Manager. My HDD is found in there. Which is quite odd.

I've also checked my Primary to make sure it was set in "Master" jumper setting. It wasn't, so I changed it.

Again. It still won't work. I decide to unplug my primary and plug in new HDD to make sure does it detect it. When I boot up. It says Drive Not Ready.

I guess it's saying this cause there is now OS installed.

Does anyone have idea how my computer can detect this new HDD?

Also, what button do I press to get into my BIOS?

Most bios's are accessed by pressing the delete key during the boot process.
Once there, there should be a section labled HDD detection.
Go there and let the computer "find" the drives.
Save and exit. Then it should display the drive during boot-up.
The only reason it might not detect this drive is if your MB & bios are more than a few years old. Then I would contact the drive vendor and see what they say.
Good luck.

The problem may be that the drive is just too big. If you know the manufacture of your motherboards chipset, chances are they will have an update that address's the problem. And "yes" your computer may be "that old" already. 200 gig drives available for the masses haven't been on the market very long. So chances are it's a BIOS issue.

Problem solved.

Got that 200GB slave to be working.

My chipset might be old. But i upgrade my parts twice a year. With most current drivers for all equipment.

Thanks for help.
