Angry XP/Onboard Graphics

I have a Via VT8361/8601 onboard graphics/audio card. I bought & loaded XP Home (mistake) and sucessfully ran the duo for months. I later found I had accumulated a disk full of s*** so decided to "start again". When I came to reboot having formatted & reloaded XP, the machine would not, AND STILL WILL NOT allow me to use the card. I'm currently using an S3 VGA card which allows me to see the screen but I cannot get the PC to run with the card. I'm told I could get round this (known) problem by installing the VGA card and "fooling" XP by installing a dual monitor setup, but I can't get that to run either. Anyone got any bright ideas please?

Sorry, I don't have any bright idea but I would like to know if you have updated your BIOS lately at all ? Have you changed th BIOS setting for on board VGA from AGP to PCI Mode just to see how it response?

Thanks Snowmonkey - I haven't changed any of the bios settings but it might be worthwhile checking. If the bios was changed from AGP to PCI would the S3 VGA card not work?

Any External Video card should work (I don't know about ISA cards since I haven't tried them) , give the S3 a try , it wouldn't break anything.

cheers
