DVD Drive not showing in My Computer

Hey

Wondering if you can help with my little problem. I have recently bought a new DVD Rewriter drive and installed it into my computer. Problem is it doesn't show in my computer and doesn't read any disks. It shows up in the BIOS and it shows up as functioning properly in device manager.

I originally thought it was a faulty drive so took it back and chose a different brand - does the same thing. Here is what I have tried:

- Making it master, slave and all by itself.
- Updating driver
- Windows update :S
- Updating firmware.

This is driving me mad - please help.

System Info:
P4 1.9Ghz, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb HD.
DVD Drive: NEC ND-2500A
Also have a CDRW drive in it as well.
Running Windows XP Home

Can you plug it in all by itself on one IDE ribbon and boot the system and then go to control panel and do a Add Hardware search to see if it can be found ?

Thanks for the reply, I have managed to sort it out finally. It turned out that the new drive decided on the letter D: for a drive path but this was already taken by a network location so there was a clash there. Thanks for your help.
