I'm not getting any sound from my sound card

I just built my first comp. and after I got it all together everything worked fine. But now I'm not getting any sound. I have an Asus P4C 800 -E Deluxe mobo with intergrated sound (soundmax) In the device manager it says that everything is loaded right, but just not started. I have no clue what their talking about. I'm running win xp pro. I have use this device ticked, In services.msc I have windows audio ticked to automatic. Everything in the bios is right also. I've tried to email Asus, but their support has alot to be desired. They haven't gotten back to me yet. I have no clue what to do. If anyone has any imput on this please let me know. Thanks.

Uninstall the Audio device in Device Manager.

Reboot and let XP find the device and load the drivers as required.

I already did that. It didn't help.

I already did that also. Still didn't work. It says that everything is loaded, but just not started. I don't know how to start it. I didn't know you had to.

try this

Start > Run > 'msconfig' > OK > Startup

Check through the tabs and ensure your soundcard is checked.

I've done that also. It didn't work either. It worked before, but now it seems like I have to jump start it some how.
