Newb graphics card advice

Hey,
I'm wanting to buy a new graph card. I'm stuck with a matrox G400 at present but i obviously needed an upgrade years ago. I have a P1.2 with 278Mb ram, would a Geforce FX 5600 be worth a buy.

I have seen a 5600 going for £67, thing I want to know is. both the 128mb version and the 256mb version are almost exactly the same price, is the 256mb version actually any faster or any better?

any help would be appreciated.

Please take no offense, but the slowest part of either setup will be the old parts of the PC. I have used both cards, and they are really close to being on the same performance level, with the 128 MB version being a little faster every now and then. In all actuality, there are no games at the moment that really need 256 MB of video memory. Think of it this way, that would be almost half of a CD-R worth of textures that would have to be in memory all at once. It would have to be a short game, or it would have to have 10 cd's just to make a few good looking levels and characters. 128 is more than enough for the time being. But back to your PC, They would both run at the max level that your PC could feed them. So, either would be fine, and would be able to migrate into a new PC if and when you upgrade the rest.
