WD Drives (Noisy)

On the contrary, WD is normally very quiet from my experiences. I use WD exclusively and I have had only 1 noisy drive and I made them replace it. If your drive is noisy is a a precursor to eminent problems down the road. If your drive is new then complain until they replace it. currently I have 2-40 gigs running and with the sides off the computer the only sound I hear is the 3 1/2 inch fans for cooling...Be wise, replace it while under warranty.

Good luck

LJM

Angry WD HD's Noisy

The technician I talked to on the phone didnt care, and said it was normal. Now i think its making a loud "churning sound". It does this whenever I defragment the drive or access a program. I find this sound very annoying. I have a WD 400B HD, and if you want to hear a sample while it is defragmenting, go to my website. Thnx!

I would make them replace it..

I only use WD drives as well and never hear "noise" from the drive.

I also have a pair, 40 GB and an 80 GB w/8MB cache. My side panels are currently off, and if I try real hard, I may hear them over the fan noise. Go to their site and dl their testing prog. Be aware that it seems to leave a phone home prog. It's been awhile, so I don't remember. With their own report being used as proof, (should it show anything) you can RMA it. Keep progressive backups till it fails. May be a bearing prob. Should not be that loud.

Smile WD noise...strange....

I agree with all the replies...I currently use an 80 and a 100 giger...and love them but Western digital's response smacks of negligence, or at least irresponsibility...Just curious..did you run the utility the harddrive came with...the "lifeline" floppy...or did they ask you to---when you visited their website--to run their online harddrive test?..not that either of those is especially accurate..depending on the problem of course..

follow LJM's advice...David Horowitz wants you to "fight back"!

I have a new wd which clunks when started, it is also louder than my previous IBM ( a marvelous drive) however, i consider the noise normal. Don't forget that the case the drive is mounted in may accentuate the noise.
