Hardware problems during upgrade

I am attempting a significant hardware upgrade (from an 1.4 AMD to a 3.2 P4) and have had nothing but problems. The system will not boot past the XP loader screen. It will briefly show the splash screen and immediately drop back out to POST. Will I need to reinstall XP Pro due to the significant hardware changes? Has anyone else seen this? Thanks to any that can provide a little direction!
