Adding a Extra Western Digital hardrive

Hello i currently have a Compaq presario 40 GB hardrive Western Digital I am thinking of adding another 80 or 40 GB hadrive and was wondering after i add second hardrive do i have to partition if i add hardrive. I have a reformat disk for the compaq computer if i add second hardrive and then insert the reformat disk will it work and also will it format the second hardrive to like together or something just want to know. Also if i add a second hardrive my comps about 2 years old will it brake my power supplie to add hardrive?

it should be fine to add the second drive to your system. you will have to set the jumpers, if the drive that is in your machine now is set on cable select, set it to master. set the new drive as slave and it should work out fine. dont use the compaq restore cd to format, it will erase your C: drive with your operating system and personal files. you can use the disk that comes with a new hard drive, or go to your control panel then to administrative tools>computer management>storage>disk management and create the partition(s) and format them from there.
