CD Drive is not working

Good evening, everyone. My name is William. I have a problem with my cd rewriteable drive. The problem is that the cd drive icon appear for five minutes and then disappeared. The icon would appear again approximately eight hours later after the last time I shutdown the computer and it does it again. I have been having this problem for a year now and I do not know how to fix this problem. I scan my entire c drive to check if it is a virus that doing this and my virus scanner does not detect any viruses in the computer. I do not know if it is a virus that doing this or it is something wrong with the cd rewriteable drive. If anybody is able to help, please email me at wnigaglioni@yahoo.com as soon as you can.
