HD LED not working

I have just built my first PC. i ve connected my HD LED to the motherboard n counter checked it several times that my connection is absolutely correct, but the LED just won blink. is it some part in the motherboard is malfunctioning or just that the LED is faulty?
MOreover, sometimes when my com shut down, i find that it doesn';t act shut down completely.THe fan is still working n my Green LED is still on but windows have already shut down...can any1 tell me wat prob m i act having???

i m using a Taiwan Mainboard DFI AD77

Are you absolutely sure you have connected it the right way round? Are you sure the positive wire is to the positive on the mainboard? Try reversing it.

The white wire is usually the negative and the coloured wire usually the positive.
