dell inspiron 5100

Having problem with dell inspiron 5100 notebook.

The notebook turns off for no reason. Everytime when a program is turned on Example (Game) is running. The notebook tend to shutdown on its own. Any help?

Specificatons:
dell inspiron 5100
2.79 Ghz P4
256MB Ram
40GB
XP Home Sp1

would have to test something like this to say for sure....some things to check, power supply(try with the batteries out and just the power cord, could be a bad cell) .

overheating?

could be a small crack on the motherboard(printed circuit)
ram could be going bad...

video settings could be wrong or driver may be corrupt, reinstall the video adapter.then try a driver update if it still happens.

i assume you have done the online virus scans and spyware scans...
there are several other things it could be like if you have added a mouse or usb devices could have a problem driver, windows,program, and anti-virus software updates could be a problem too. just have to go through one at a time to you find the villian.
