I have huge problems with connecting an external DVD burner to my USB2.0 ports on my PC with ASUS P4S8X mainboard and WinXP SP1 (Norwegian). I get the following error (translated to English): “A high-speed USB unit is plugged in to a low-speed USB hub. Click this window to get help solving the problem.” When I do I get a window showing a tree-structure with 6 available USB ports on SiS PCI to USB enhanced controller. This is as fas as I see the controller for my USB2.0. My chipset is SiS 963 South Bridge.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers from ASUS (including BIOS) and Microsoft. USB2.0 is enabled in BIOS setup. I have uninstalled several times all the USB stuff with no luck. To me it seems like I should get rid of the SiS 7001 driver. But this only installs itself after restart (p&p).
Anyone that can help me ???
This is how it looks in device manager in control panel:

Doesn't this say it all ?
You can do the opposite,A usb 1 int a usb 2 hub for
"backward"compatibility.Forward is a no no.
If you don't have a hub than thats another story,
It doesn't really say it all. If you had looked at the info that he posted, it says that he does have USB 2.0 compliant hardware.
Have you tried using another USB port on your computer? Some computers have two USB 2.0 ports and two other USB 1.1 ports. Try switching some stuff around and see what happens.

Go to the device manager and upgrade the driver for the SiS PCI to USB enhanced controller and select the "from Windows update" option for location of driver. If you have SP1 installed then it should find the USB 2.0 drivers. The 2.0 drivers have to come from the service pack and NOT the vender.

usb 2.0 "device drivers"
It won't work with my usb 2.0 asus drivers.
Maybe thats the problem here ?
Is it your purpose on this thread to give rediculous answers and try to confuse the issue or are you just blessed with the gift?
What the heck does this have to do with the USB ports on his computer.
I know for a fact the the 2.0 device will NEVER be seen in Windows XP without at least service pack 1 installed.
I have tried mixing around with the 6 different ports: no luck
I have tried searching for a new driver, and the one from Microsoft WinXP SP1 are installed: no luck
I have given up this motherboard. Next one will not be with SiS controller.
I have XP SP2 installed and no matter what I try, I can not get the wizard to find a USB 2 driver when I plug in my USB2.0 flash memory chip. I have an Asus P4B533 MB which is supposed to have 6 USB 2.0 inputs. I have the BIOS usb legacy set to auto.
