Adding Ram...

Which is faster, a 256 sdram stick, followed by a 128 sdram stick or the 256 sdram alone. Someone told me with both sticks not being the same size(even though the larger one is installed first) it will actually slow down the system.

I think it depends on the speed of the SDRAM... like in PC100 or PC133.

I've always been told to put the faster RAM in the first slot and then the slower RAM... This supposidly stops a bottle neck when the RAM is accessed.

While using unmatched RAM is not always a good thing it certainly is used by many folks....

Same Ram speed, 133, just one stick is 256 and the other is 128.

Should work fine then...I would start with the 256 mb chip in slot one.

it makes no difference in performance (why would it - the clocks set to 100/133 whatever) the main objective is getting the memory to work together - trial beep beep beep and error.

admittedly i much prefer buying dimms in pairs (Compatibility)
