Serial Bus Controller disappeared!
HELP!
All of a sudden, my mouse stopped responding regularly. After a few minutes, it stopped responding completely. (I was using Windows XP). I tried to reboot many times; the mouse pointer would regularly appear on the screen and there i no error message at all; but the mouse does not work at all, not even the clicks don't. I opened the mouse and I cleaned it, and now I am sure it is not the fault of the mouse itself.
I doubted that there was a problem in the drivers, so I completely deleted the operating system and installed Windows ME. Same story! No I was sure that the problem is in the hardware.
I never had any such problem before, and the mouse worked perfectly both under Windows ME and Windows XP.
So the next time I rebooted I paid attention to the BIOS checks.
The Serial Bus Controller is reported as NA (not available, I guess). It is not a USB, just an old Serial Bus Controller (with my Pentium II).
I opened the computer to see if any card or connection was out of place, but everything seems to be in apple pie's order.
To recap: the mouse does not work at all (everything else does); the serial bus controller is reported by the BIOS as N/A.
Questions:
1) What can I do now?
2) Will I have to replace the Serial Bus Controller? Is it possible? How much is it?
3) Any suggestions?
