Soundblaster Live! 5.1 sound distorted problem.

I have a soundcard : soundblaster live! 5.1. I'm having problems with it at the moment.

Everytime I try and record on to my Pc using the "line in" (using creative software) the sound quality lessens and distorts, but when I just listen to the music without recording or having the settings set on "line in" it plays fine. Can you help in anyway? I've downloaded other softwares and it's the same thing, so it must be something to do with the settings somewhere?

I recorded Inet radio useing "What you hear" Useing Creative wav editor,then save as mp3.

I hook up my digital 8-track tascam 788 to the PC with a wire...erm, not sure of the name! The lead comes with mini discs I think. I'll try the "What you hear" into wav, only problem is trying it with my Creative playcenter as it reverts any option back "line in" Gr.
